Report - NZ Veteran’s 2007 - 2008.
On
the 9th November 07 the Vets team assembled in Blenheim for the
start of a series against the Australian team. Friday night saw some chopping
and sawing against the clock, we came a close second to the Aussie boys but the
night was greatly appreciated by a good crowd of spectators. Many
thanks to Robbie and the Management of
the Criterion Hotel for the accommodation and the scrumptious seafood supper
after the evening. Saturday Blenheim Show, bit chilly, odd shower, large
turnout of axemen, good wood, Vets Team: Martin Mason, Gordon Mannering, Tony Carran and Kevin
Dowling, John Birchfield, Colin Dalkie,
Ray Harraway, Roger Thain,
Roly Kent, Res. Terry Rice. All cut well
but finished a couple of blows behind the Aussies. Sunday Kaikoura, Nice day,
good turnout, slight change to team I cut first UH Terry cut a ST, result the
same, couple of blows behind at finish, this was a strong team from Aussie.
On
to CHCH Show, Large turnout of competitors, NSW team, axemen from all over NZ,
one man from GB, and the Vets. The team virtually the same, the result
virtually the same, we were a few blows behind at the finish each race for the
three days.
We
can only hope Harold [Aussie
Speedster] may have slowed up a little bit before we meet next but I doubt it!
The next outing is Adelaide Show Sept, but we are training this year, so could
be different.
