Presidents Southern Axemen’s Association Report 2008
This has my first year as
President and I am still trying to find my way around.
We have had some great successes
this year in our travels:
Q
We had a very good trip to Perth in September taking Sarah Nelson, Craig Unahi, Adam Lowe, Raymond Stuart, Antony
Stodart, Daniel Gilsenan, Neil Hateley, Anthony Gilsenan. The team came away
with a 3 nil victory!!! A special thanks to Brian Hateley as manager, and for
organising the boot camps prior to our departure. This made a big difference
to our fitness and therefore our result. Also a special thanks to Robbie Brownlee for his support and knowledge to the new team members. Also his exceptional
culinary skills.
Q
Thanks to the Canterbury Show
Committee for all their organising, which as you all know, is a lot of hard
work goes into something like this. Also great work by the South Island team
going up against the New South Wales team and coming out with a 3 nil win. It
was also good to see the veterans at the show too!!
Q
Taking the South Island Team to
Nowra – Willie Able, Stephen Unahi, Craig Unahi, Dave Evans, Anthony Gilsenan, Joe Cox and Antony Stodart. Although it was a great trip we came away with a
3 nil loss. Better luck next time
Now, looking at the South
Island Association going forward. We need to sort out an annual plan for the
year, along with guidance and input from the committee, and then follow it.
This is a job that can not be done only by one person and it takes a team
effort to get it done. Last year we decided things at the annual meeting and
unfortunately, some of these did not happen.
There are Juniors, Veterans,
Women and Seniors to consider going ahead, but we all must realise that as a
team member we are responsible for funding.
Well done to Adam Lowe and Bobby Dowling for their selection in the NZ A Team. Good work guys and I along
with the Association, wish them well in the future.
Many thanks
Antony Stodart
The Southern Axemen’s
Association will be conducting a survey of its members to gain information and
ideas relating to the purpose and direction of the Association. The survey will
be mailed directly to all registered members. Rachael Roberts - Secretary
